Can art change the world?
Can art really change the world? As an artist, why do I paint?
I ponder those two questions and I do think they are connected. I paint because I think my art CAN change the world. Maybe not in a huge way but in some small substantial way, little by little, by putting that creation out there I think I can affect the world in a positive way.
I believe everything happens for a reason. When I look at the intricacies of a living human being (or any living thing for that matter) I
find that it only makes sense that we are all part of a larger plan. We are not random. There is a reason and purpose for all of us to be here. We all have gifts and talents. Art talent is a gift. Since I was given this gift, which was handed down to me from my grandfather to my father and then to me, I believe that I should use that gift and try to do something good with it. It is also up to me to nurture it and work really hard to make myself skilled at it.
It is a collective effort. If we as human beings throw out more positive vibes by doing positive things, I do think we can affect our physical world.
When I was sixteen a well known artist said to me, “Paint your hates.” Even back then I knew that wasn’t for me. What I did take from that advice was to paint my passions. As an artist you should paint the things that move you which can also be what you absolutely love. There is a fine line between love and hate, As humans we have both love and hate in us. I know that I can go to that dark side but I choose not to. I prefer the light.
When someone buys one of my paintings I want my work to give off good energy
When my collector hangs my piece in their home or office I want my art to bring them good fortune. I believe all things give off energy. In a way I want my work to be a lucky charm for my collector. You know when you look at art or a painting and it makes you feel good? That is what I want my work to be. I want my collector to look at my work and feel good. If I can do that then maybe I can influence your day to be a little more happy or positive and then I have done my job. Change starts small. Small changes add up to large changes which eventually add up to huge changes which add up to (wait for it) world changes. So yes, the answer is, yes! Art CAN change the world.
Keep on painting!
