Splashed in Sunlight — Finding Beauty in Light

There is something sacred about sunlight pouring through a window. It transforms ordinary moments into something luminous, peaceful, and alive. My oil painting, Splashed in Sunlight, was born from that quiet experience.

This 18” x 14” oil painting on linen panel captures a bouquet of soft white roses with delicate pink-red centers resting in a glass vase near a sunlit window. Behind the flowers, green leaves filter the sunlight as it streams inside, creating a gentle glow that illuminates the roses from behind. The glass comes alive with reflected light, while shadows stretch across the surface below, creating a beautiful balance of light and dark.

I was especially drawn to the contrast in this piece — the warmth of golden sunlight against the cool blues within the shadows, the glowing highlights against deeper tones, and the sense of life within the petals themselves. The roses almost seem to radiate from within, touched by light. The reddish centers reflect the heart of the flower and their life-force as our own hearts are our life-force - it is the same for these roses.

As I painted, I found myself reflecting on how light reveals beauty we might otherwise overlook. For me, this light is a reminder of God’s presence — His creation, His inspiration, and His gift of beauty in everyday moments. I give Him all the credit for the ability to see, feel, and express these moments through paint.

Splashed in Sunlight is more than a floral painting — it is a celebration of light, peace, and the quiet joy found in simple things.
