Imagine a world without art. Really imagine what that would be like.
Imagine that a child would never be handed their first crayon or colored marker and his or her first drawing would not exist. There would be no line drawings of a house or a dog or a flower or a sun to hang with a magnet on the refrigerator door.
Children’s books would be plain without illustrations and would have only words on pages. We would have no comic books no cartoons no Mickey Mouse no Daffy Duck no Goofy and probably no Disneyland.
We would have no finger paints or easels or artist paint brushes. No watercolors or acrylic paints or oil paints or canvases.
There would be no Monet or Renoir or Picasso or Pollock. These artists would not exist and museums would not display their paintings. In fact there would be no art museums such as the J. Paul Getty Museum (my favorite), LACMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Louvre in France. (Where would I go on those days when I needed my fill of art?!)
Imaginations would be stunted, unfed, undernourished. Great inventions are encouraged by artistic minds, those that can see beyond the tangible world and without art how would we have the ability to see beyond our vision, to invent those things such as the locomotive engine, the light bulb, the spaceship that made it to the moon? How could these things exist without art? That same mind that creates art is the one that creates from his or her imagination. It is from this imagination, one that is nurtured and fed and nourished, where the brilliance to invent things comes from.
Art ads beauty to what can sometimes be a dark world and I think how sad and drab the world would be without it.
Imagine a world without art and when you think about it you begin to realize how important art is in our lives.
