Without lows in life we can’t have the highs. Whenever I am not feeling good emotionally I know that a period of transformation is coming.
Years ago I remember reading about the singer Cindy Lauper. She said that she would go through periods of depression but that she noticed that this always came
right before she would have a creative breakthrough. As an artist myself I have noticed that right before I am to make a breakthrough to another level in my art I have a period of melancholy. I don’t know the reason for this but it seems to be true. I imagine that other artists experience this. I would guess people in general experience the same thing.
Life is full of opposites. Without lows we can’t have highs. Without dark we can’t light. Without black we can’t have white. There is a purpose to all of it. If you are going through a down period then know that a period of happiness and positivity is on its way and this will make it easier to travel through the low. It seems that some people let that dark mood overtake them. The trick is to be able to function normally while experiencing those dark emotions. The key is to have self control.
Life is not easy. We are all sentient beings and artists especially are sensitive to life’s highs and lows. If you are aware of the mood swings and step back and tell yourself it is necessary to experience and feel those melancholy emotions in order to grow as an artist or as a human being it indeed makes it easier to pass through it. The self control comes from stepping back and allowing yourself to go through it. The self control comes from telling yourself your state is only temporary and the light is on its way. Tell yourself the lows are necessary to get to that next creative level.
