Laughter

This painting is more than a portrait—it’s a celebration. A celebration of friendship, of sisterhood, of shared joy. It’s a reminder that laughter, like a flower, is both delicate and strong: delicate in how it softens our hearts, strong in how it carries us through life’s seasons.

This oil painting is called Laughter. It’s 24 x 30 inches on canvas, and it’s a triple portrait of my sister, my best friend, and myself. But more than just a portrait, it’s about something bigger—friendship, joy, and the way laughter connects us.

The inspiration came from a beautiful gathering. My best friend’s father was turning 80, and the three of us came together to celebrate. We’ve known each other for decades, and every time we’re together, laughter is at the center. That day, someone snapped a photo of us laughing so hard that we couldn’t stop. It was one of those genuine, unplanned, heart-filled moments that you wish you could bottle up and keep forever. That moment became the seed for this painting.

Our shared laughter-a gift from God-surrounded by birthday decorations of plumeria flowers—captured in a photograph that made us laugh right along with it. You know those kinds of laughs, the ones that bubble up from the heart, from the belly, spill over like wildflower seeds on the breeze, and can’t help but grow into joy wherever they land? That’s what I wanted to paint here: laughter in bloom.

As I laid the brush to canvas, each petal of laughter seemed to curl open like the flowers in a meadow at dawn. The faces, glowing with happiness, became like blossoms themselves—bright, playful, and alive. Around them, flowers twine and dance, because joy doesn’t stay still. It flutters, it vines, it stretches toward the sun.

I once heard someone say: paint the thing you want in your life. That wisdom really stayed with me. What I want is more laughter—more of those spontaneous, joyful moments that remind us of the love and connections we share. So when I began this painting, it wasn’t just about capturing faces. It was about nurturing something I long for and inviting it to grow in my life.

My goal here was simple, to bring more joy into my life and to make the viewer smile, I hope this painting does that, makes you smile.
