I was inspired by a photograph of a partially full whiskey bottle lit by sunlight falling through a window and I felt compelled to add a couple of white roses to the bottle. In my painting I imagined these roses enjoying a sip of whiskey while warming their petals in the filtered sunlight streaming in. As an artist I can imagine that scotch isn't a bad drink for flowers and I can take liberties with my creative process. Whiskey Roses is a feast of colors for the eyes and perhaps in real life the scotch would be detrimental to these flowers but in an artist's mind it is about moderation and artistic liberty. The gold and orange chroma of the liquid adds to the warmth. The roses quite enjoy their vase and partaking in relaxing with a neat straight up drink or two.
