There is something timeless and deeply comforting about painting roses.

This recent oil painting simply titled, "Joyful" captures a quiet moment - two blushing blooms gently leaning into each other in a humble drinking glass. One rose is soft, pale with a hint of yellow, the other is bold with a deep magenta heart - a poetic contrast of vulnerability and strength. A few fallen petals rest nearby, a gentle reminder of beauty's fleeting temporary nature. A nudge saying this life is a blip, a short moment in time that too shall pass.

As I painted this piece I was drawn to the way the light filtered through the glass casting soft shadows and reflections that danced across the surface. The blossoms seemed to whisper their own stories showing their distinct personalities - of gardens past and the hands that picked them, of the room they once brightened with their elegance and beauty.

This is more than a still life of inanimate objects, these are living things and they show their pride in existing and being so magnificent - they pretend to be simple -the kind of thing you may walk by and barely notice - yet these roses are truly amazing in how they come into existence. God in His glory made roses to be such incredible creations.

This piece, Joyful, is close to my heart because it celebrates God's glory of creation, it applauds the kind of joy and elegance I strive to share through my paintings and my process. I believe flowers are little messengers of peace and tenderness - and in this painting I hope you can feel that message too.
