My original oil painting, “Whiskey Roses,”  was created in my studio,  is a tribute to light,  glass,  and the contrast between delicate wistfulness and grounded strength, between strength and softness, a mix of masculinity and femininity. The moment that inspired this painting was simple: a partially filled whiskey bottle being hit by the light from a window, with sunlight streaming through it, and being mesmerized by the reflections in the amber liquid and the way the light bounced off the glass. I wondered what if I introduced two white roses from my garden, set them in this square whiskey bottle and let them coexist as one. What unfolded on the linen panel was much more—a tension between fluid light and faceted glass, between the gentle nature of florals and the boldness of the container, between hardness and soft. As a painter grounded in realism and emotion, I wanted Whiskey Roses to feel like a pause—an invitation to take a breath and just observe the light.
